The annual San Domenico Dance Concert is coming up! The Dance Concert has been going on for several years, and each year there is a new theme. This years theme is “Catalyst,” which symbolizes igniting change. Each of the dances focus on things that ignite a reaction or change.
Alyssa Carnahan, the dance teacher, has been working with the Dance Ensemble on the choreography for the dance concert since September.
“It takes a long time to learn and perfect a dance, and the Dance Concert is the result of months and months of dedicated hard work,” Carnahan says while describing the process of the Dance Concert.
In this year’s concert, the audience can expect a range of different dances including, jazz, ballet, hip hop, and contemporary dance. There will be several fun props, costumes, set pieces, and apparently, a blooper reel at the end of the performance!
When summarizing the theme of this year’s Dance Concert, Carnahan states, “I like to think of it like an ‘origin story.’ What are the things that make us who we are? Which events inspire us to make choices or take action?”
Ella Tyner, a Junior at SD, has been a part of the Dance ensemble since her freshman year, and senses a difference in this year’s dance concert compared to the past ones.
“This year has definitely felt the most different since our past COVID years,” Tyner describes. “We’ve been fully unmasked. Everything is going back to normal, and all of our lives seem to be changing.”
There is also a whole new set of dancers in this year’s concert, which will also make the concert feel different from last years show.
