It is a truth universally acknowledged that junior year is really, annoyingly hard. After endless days of summatives and college talks, this break feels very necessary. Yay a week off of school! It is time to go Christmas shopping, watch wicked, and rot in bed. But thanksgiving is so much more than that. It’s about love and family. I had the privilege of spending my thanksgiving with two of my best friends. A holiday that is all about sharing what you are grateful for just reminds me how much I love these two. So in the true thanksgiving spirit here are five things I am grateful for with my friends.
- Inside jokes, having the opportunity to reach into memories and laugh about character building moments in childhood. The kind of jokes only you two get. It really shows how invincible your relationship is.
- Silent conversations, you know that silent dialogue you have with your friends when other people are around. Like when your mom mentions the name of someone you both don’t like or when your sister bullies you again.
- Sending reels, nothing is as unbeatable as sharing instagram reels (or tik toks whatever you prefer). With my friends it may be sailing memes, things we should do together, a baby doing bottle flip, or other brain rot.
- Unpaid therapist, When your friend has been your friend through all of the ups and downs they just get it. You don’t have to start at the beginning every time because they already know. You can spend hours on the phone with someone going over your struggles and it’s completely free.
- Constant bickering, if it’s not a constant battle of yo mama jokes it’s not a real friendship. To the naked eye it may seem like you hate each other but each “you suck” is secretly just sharing your affection.
This holiday season, remember to appreciate the friendships you’ve created and remind them how much you care for them.
